A PLSS description tells you where a piece of public-domain land sits inside a nested grid. The usual order is aliquot, section, township, range and principal meridian. A description such as NW ¼, Section 15, Township 18 South, Range 32 East is meaningful only when the correct principal meridian and state are known.
Read the parts in order
- Principal meridian anchors the survey.
- Township and range identify the township.
- Section identifies one of the numbered section cells.
- Aliquots narrow the result to a quarter or quarter-quarter.
Field rule
Do not treat a phone GPS estimate as a certified corner. Use it to reach the general field location, then verify critical boundaries against official records and a licensed surveyor.
Why offline lookup matters
Lease roads, ranches, forests and well sites are exactly where mobile coverage becomes unreliable. Prairie Grid Pro carries a transformed index of 85,622 BLM-derived townships on the device, so parsing and grid estimation do not depend on a developer server.
What the app returns
The result includes a map outline, decimal coordinates, DMS, WGS84 UTM, distance and bearing, plus navigation handoff to an installed map app. Saved sites can hold job names and access notes and export as CSV, KML or a PDF field report.
Try the field workflow
Three successful lookups are included. Lifetime unlock is one payment with no account or developer server.
